Outpatient Depression Treatment in Longview and Throughout East Texas
Depression can disrupt motivation, sleep, concentration, appetite, and the ability to get through an ordinary day; for many people, it stresses even the closest relationships, not to mention the ability to make a living. Resolute provides compassionate outpatient depression treatment in Longview and throughout East Texas. Our psychiatric medication management, ongoing follow-up, and access to advanced options such as SPRAVATO® help patients on a daily basis.
Our role is to review previous attempts at recovery and build a treatment plan that makes clinical sense for you personally. Some patients come to us early, before they have tried medication. Others arrive after months or years of persistent symptoms. Regardless of your specific situation, please contact us for a private consultation.
How We Evaluate Depression
A Careful Review Of Symptoms And History
During an evaluation, we ask when the problem began, how long it has lasted, and what has changed over time. We also review sleep disruption, appetite changes, physical slowing, loss of interest, hopelessness, irritability, and any history of self-harm thoughts. This is important to us, because depression does not look exactly the same from one patient to the next.
We also ask about prior medication trials, past counseling, family history, and medical issues that may affect mood. Some patients have already taken one or more antidepressants without much benefit, while others stopped treatment because of side effects, cost, or difficulty staying consistent.
We Look At The Full Clinical Picture
Part of the evaluation involves sorting out whether symptoms fit major depressive disorder, a longer-standing depressive condition, or another diagnosis with overlapping features. Anxiety, trauma, bipolar disorder, ADHD, and substance use are common overlapping conditions. If a provider misses that context, the medication plan may not be appropriate.
That is why we do not consider depression treatment in our office to be an easy and quick prescription. We look at the broader pattern first, and once the diagnosis is clearer, we make informed medication decisions.
Medication Treatment for Depression
Antidepressant Medication Management
In antidepressant treatments, we consider symptom pattern, past treatment response, side effect history, and any co-occurring conditions before choosing a medication. Common options may include Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors such as sertraline (Zoloft), escitalopram (Lexapro), or fluoxetine (Prozac), along with Serotonin Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitors such as venlafaxine (Effexor XR) or duloxetine (Cymbalta).
Follow-Up And Dose Adjustment
"Medication management" refers to our ongoing care associated with the treatment. We take this very seriously. Early follow-up allows us to track how you are sleeping, whether appetite is shifting, how energy is changing, and whether concentration is improving. We also watch for side effects and adjust doses gradually.
That part of treatment matters more than many patients expect. A medication may be appropriate, yet still require adjustments. In other cases, the first choice may not be the best fit. We talk through those changes clearly, and provide explanations as to why a dose may be increased, why we may recommend a different medication altogether, or why more time may be needed before drawing conclusions.
Help When Standard Antidepressants Have Not Worked
Understanding Treatment-Resistant Depression
Some patients continue to struggle despite trying two or more antidepressants at adequate doses and duration. When that happens, it may point to treatment-resistant depression. That does not mean the situation is hopeless, but it means the next step needs more thought and sometimes a different kind of intervention.
At that stage, we review previous prescriptions, how long they were taken, what changed, and what side effects emerged. We also revisit the diagnosis itself. A person who appears to have resistant depression may actually have bipolar depression, untreated trauma symptoms, ADHD, or another contributing condition that changed the response to treatment.
SPRAVATO® Treatment At Resolute
Resolute offers SPRAVATO® treatment for adults who meet appropriate medical and psychiatric criteria. SPRAVATO® is a prescription esketamine nasal spray used alongside an oral antidepressant. It works differently than standard antidepressants by acting through glutamate pathways rather than relying on serotonin or norepinephrine.
Treatment takes place in our clinic under supervision. Patients self-administer the nasal spray while staff monitor blood pressure and overall response. Because of the chance of temporary sedation, dissociation, or blood pressure changes, we carefully follow established safety protocols and include a post-dose observation period.
Counseling And Additional Support
Medication And Therapy Can Work Together
At Resolute, we coordinate care when counseling would strengthen the treatment plan. Our team includes Robin Hughes, LPC, who has experience helping patients with depression, anxiety, anger management, and trauma-related concerns. When therapy is not provided directly through the clinic, we can help patients connect with appropriate support in the community. For many people, the most useful approach is the combination of both medically assisted treatment and therapy, adjusted to fit severity, history, and current function.

Frequently Asked Questions
What Is Outpatient Depression Treatment?
Outpatient depression treatment allows you to receive psychiatric care while continuing work, school, family life, and other responsibilities. It may include medication management, counseling, referrals for therapy, and advanced options such as SPRAVATO® for qualifying patients.
How Do You Know If Depression Is Severe Enough To Need Medication?
Medication becomes part of the conversation when depression causes meaningful disruption in daily life or continues despite time, counseling, or lifestyle changes. Severity is based on the full clinical picture, not one symptom by itself.
How Long Does It Take Antidepressants To Start Working?
Some side effects appear early, but full antidepressant benefit usually takes several weeks. Sleep, energy, and appetite may shift before mood improves. Follow-up visits help determine whether the medication is moving in the right direction.
What If I Have Already Tried More Than One Antidepressant?
That history is important. We review what was prescribed, how long you took it, what changed, and what side effects occurred. If the picture fits treatment-resistant depression, we may discuss options such as SPRAVATO® or a different medication strategy.
Who Qualifies For SPRAVATO® Treatment?
Adults with major depressive disorder who have tried at least two antidepressants without adequate improvement may qualify. We also review medical history, blood pressure, current medications, and practical ability to complete monitored in-clinic treatment sessions.
Can Depression Be Treated Along With Anxiety Or Trauma?
Yes. Depression often overlaps with anxiety disorders or trauma-related conditions. We evaluate those concerns directly because they influence diagnosis, treatment selection, and follow-up planning.
Do You Offer Telehealth Appointments?
Yes. Resolute offers both in-person and telehealth appointments when clinically appropriate. Telehealth can improve access for patients across East Texas who need psychiatric follow-up without frequent travel.
Do You Serve Patients Outside Of Longview, Texas?
Yes. Resolute serves patients across East Texas within state lines. Many individuals travel from Tyler, Marshall, Texarkana, and other surrounding communities for outpatient depression treatment and psychiatric medication management.
